Art from the Unexpected

Six weeks ago, twenty advertising and marketing leaders were asked to pick up a paintbrush, camera or whatever medium they choose and create an original work of art. And on April 16, all 20 pieces were auctioned off at Toronto’s Steam Whistle Brewery.

From a painting that couples Albert Einstein and Marilyn Monroe to a collage of genuine (unchecked) lottery tickets, the pieces showed an inspiring side of industry leaders that don’t typically get to be creative in their day-to-day.

The Ad Lounge and TC Media-run “Art from the Unexpected” event was a success as it met its fundraising goal. Close to $20,000 was raised during the silent auction, with the proceeds being donated to youth initiative Sketch.

“Creativity isn’t just for ‘the creatives,’” said Trina Boos, founder, Ad Lounge in a release. “At Art from the Unexpected, we show you what happens when we let people who run businesses create something that is outside their comfort zone. It also gives them an opportunity, along with everyone who attends the event, to help benefit a cause that supports young artists.”

The 20 artists include:
